Yellow Submarine is a 1968 animated feature film based on the music of The Beatles. It is also the title for the soundtrack album to the feature film, released as part of The Beatles' music catalogue. The film was directed by Canadian-born animation producer George Dunning, and produced by United Artists and King Features Syndicate. The Beatles themselves appear only in the closing scene of the film.

In the film, the Beatles are invited by a captain to join him on his yellow submarine. The captain needs help freeing Pepperland from the Blue Meanies, and the Beatles willingly oblige to help. Before arriving to Pepperland and liberating the country with glorious rock and roll, the Beatles take a psychedelic trip through the ocean. The Beatles music is incorporated throughout this journey. The film is memorable for its great music, and for its various animation styles ranging from the abstract to the realistic. The film uses limited animation, and attempts to animate a world which could never exist in reality. Its psychadelic artwork appealed to the pop culture of the 1960's. This style is a stark contrast from the traditional cel-animation of the Disney animation studio.
