Definition[]

Iconography is pictorial illustrations associated with a person or subject. It could be a set of symbols or images used in a particular field or activity such as music, the movies or animation. Through that, the content of images are identified and interpreted.

Iconography comes from two Greek words εικον (image) and γραφειν (to write) and thus literally mean “image writing”.

Hence, iconography plays a huge part in animation since animation is created purely from the various combinations of images.
